Welcome to Woodside Croft, our working croft located on the Heights above Strathpeffer in the Scottish Highlands.

We currently produce Shetland lamb, and Angus x Shorthorn store cattle. We practice low-input, sustainable farming by not over-stocking, and minimising the use of chemicals. The croft is home to a wide variety of birds, small mammals, and wildflowers.

EGG UPDATE APRIL 2010 : Severe weather has seriously delayed the re-roofing of the henhouses. We are hoping for a settled period in early summer to do the work, and are now expecting to be back in egg production this coming Autumn Many thanks to our loyal customers.

ORGANIC UPDATE APRIL 2010 : Unfortunately, for the sake of the croft, we have had to leave the organic scheme. One entire hen paddock has been completely smothered by corn chamomile which came in with a load of organic wheat a few years ago. It is very pretty when blooming, but nothing, not even the Shetland sheep, will eat it, and it must be stopped as it is appearing in other paddocks now. Three other paddocks are choked with nettles which this year topped 6 feet tall. We have taken professional advice and tried every non-chemical means possible to halt the spread of these pernicious, invasive weeds, to no avail. We still ascribe to many of the principles of organic farming, but failure to tackle these weeds is not an option, and we must begin a program of spot-spraying this Spring.

Hay at last!

Despair in July, Joy in August. Some of the best, and latest, hay we have ever made.

Our croft is also home to the Strathpeffer Spa Soap Company. We have been making lovely natural handmade soaps and bath products from our own recipes since 2003. Our gentle soaps contain no animal products and are free from artificial additives. We add loads of natural ingredients to care for your skin and hair—pure essential plant oils and fragrances, herbs, spices, seeds, petals, and natural minerals. Feel free to browse through our online shop at www.spasoap.co.uk, where you can also find a list of local stockists.

In 2007 we began using organically certified base oils. Several widely-used soap-making oils can only be grown in a tropical environment - and we wanted to ensure that our soap is environmentally responsible and does not contribute to habitat destruction.
